What is a mosh?
A mosh is simply a gathering of pups (or other animal personas) in a space allowing them to play, meet others in the community, and generally allow their inner pet play persona to be free to be themselves. These events happen in both public and private spaces, and they generally have a mat and some toys for pups to play with while in the pup headspace.
Do I need any special equipment to go to a mosh?
Absolutely not! Most importantly, pet play is a state of mind. While there are lots of types of equipment (pup/animal hoods, leather and neoprene harnesses, mits, leashes, etc), none of it is required to let loose and enjoy your time playing as a pup or other animal. Some people find that a hood helps them get into the right mindset, so it is a frequent purchase by many, but never required.
Also, be sure to avoid wearing anything sharp, pokey, or hard to avoid accidentally hurting other folks or damaging the mats.
Can I watch a mosh without participating directly on the mats?
Yes! Like any group activity, we should respect those participating by not staring inappropriately or causing any other bad vibes, but it's perfectly normal to be curious before approaching the pups to say hello or offer some scritches. Consent is still required before touching anybody or taking any pictures. Basically, be curteous or you'll be asked to leave.
Are pictures allowed at the mosh?
Maybe. Be sure to ask anybody in the picture if you are allowed to take their picture. Many pups are excited to have their picture taken, but not everybody wants to be in a picture. Be sure to share any pictures you do take back with the group!
What ages are allowed to join the events?
It depends on the venue, but all events are for adults only. The mosh, as an example, is held at a bar, so it is 21+ only. Other events (camping trips, potluck barbeques, etc) are 18+. Under no circumstances are minors allowed to join group events.
On the other end of the spectrum, pets of all ages can be found at a mosh! While our bodies might not allow us to crawl around on a mat like some of the younger pets, we can still join the crowd for a drink and fellowship.
How can I get more involved? I want to help!
We would love to have more folks volunteer to run or help coordinate an event! You can find us on Telegram after we meet you at a mosh. Be sure to chat with Roscoe or Nate to discuss what you would like to do to contribue. Monetary contributions are also welcome and will be used to purchase new chew toys, better mats, food for events, etc.
Is there a dress code for events?
Generally speaking, the venue decides the dress code. At the mosh, for example, no nudity is allowed but if you want to strip down to a jock strap and harness, that\s perfectly acceptable. If we are hosting an event in a public park, then appropriate clothing for a park is required. If there is a private event at somebody's residence, it is up to that host to decide what is allowed for the event. If you are not sure, just ask on Telegram.
Also, be sure to avoid wearing anything sharp, pokey, or hard to avoid accidentally hurting other folks or damaging the mats at a mosh.
How can I chat with folks about pup events or other general banter?
We can be found on Telegram in several channels. Your best bet is to chat with a local in the community and get them to send you a link to join the chat. Like all public chat groups, there are moderators to kick out bots and other folks that spew hate speech or other unacceptable behavior.
Is pet play just a sexual fetish?
Not always, but it certainly can be. For some folks, pet play allows them to disassociate from their problems for awhile and just relax in a stress-free environment--kind of like meditation. Other folks may certainly find pet play to be an exciting addition to their bedroom. Both are perfectly wonderful ways to enjoy pet play.
However, one thing certainly NOT welcome in the pet play community is bestiality or any other form of animal abuse.
I'm visitng from out of town. Can I join an event if I don't know any local pups?
Yes, please do join us! We will always welcome pups without a pack to visit and meet new friends.
Do you make considerations for folks with special needs?
To the best of our ability, yes. We strive to plan events that accommodate folks with mobility issues, transit issues, and more. If you have a concern about an event, please be sure to communicate with Roscoe or Nate to see what we can do to help.
